As with many families the war experiences were not discussed within the respective families , by our fighting men. As a result we have lost an insight to the personal war experiences of our grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. History has recorded the skirmishes and battles that took place, so the meshing of my grandfathers personal data from the National library can provide some meaning to his experiences in the Middle East.
The only experience my grandfather related, due to his sense of humour, was when his horse was startled and bolted from the ranks towards the enemy lines. With revolver drawn and on the point of pulling the trigger, his horse thought better of proceeding and my grandfather was well pleased to rejoin the ranks.
This has been an incredible experience by myself to uncover my grandfathers service. This will provide greater meaning on ANZAC DAY as well. With the 100th anniversary of WW1, we as a family can follow the dates 100 years on. LEST WE FORGET
